Engineering Calm: The Transition to Game Dev
There is a moment in every engineer’s career where the tools stop mattering and the process becomes everything. For me, that moment arrived when I stopped building products for others and started building worlds for myself.
The Shift
Game development is not an escape from software engineering — it is its purest expression. Every system you build must hold weight. Every abstraction must serve the player. There is no room for accidental complexity when a frame budget of 16 milliseconds is your reality.
What I Carry Forward
The principles remain the same:
- Simplicity over cleverness. A system that is easy to read is easy to extend.
- Constraints breed focus. A smaller scope means a deeper experience.
- Ship, then iterate. Perfection is the enemy of the published.
The Foundation
This site is where I document the transition. Systems thinking applied to interactive worlds. Calm engineering in a noisy industry.
The foundation is set. Time to build.
